Students may still apply to institutes that have active waitlists. If you are accepted to the Summer Immersion Program you may register for the waitlist or register for another institute with open seats. Putting your name on the waitlist requires a $550 deposit, which can be transferred to another institute if you are not admitted into your first choice. Current 9th to 12th grade students who are in good academic standing and have no school suspensions are eligible to apply.

Yes, international students are encouraged to apply. Students are not required to submit a TOEFL score. However, students classified as international students are not eligible to receive need-based aid or scholarships.

Yes, home-schooled students are encouraged to apply.

Yes, both new and returning students must complete a new application with updated materials. If you deferred a previous summer registration/deposit to Summer 2025, you do NOT need to reapply.

To be considered for the Summer Immersion Program each student must submit an online application, as well as receive one recommendation from a school counselor, teacher or administrator (principal, dean, head of school).

Within the online application, students will list the name, phone number and email address of a reference who can speak to the student’s academic abilities and capacity to thrive in a college environment (the online recommendation cannot be requested from a family member, coach, religious leader or paid tutor). References will receive an automated email with a link to a form that asks questions about the student. High school transcripts and test scores are not required to apply to the Summer Immersion Program.

Yes, a $50 non-refundable fee is required in order to apply to the Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program. Please note that this fee is due at the time of application submission.

The application opens on November 1st. We accept students on a rolling basis until all programs are filled. There is no hard deadline to apply. Students are encouraged to apply early as popular institutes begin to implement waitlists in January.

Students are encouraged to show interest in as many institutes as they desire and find interesting. The admissions decision is not based upon the number of institutes to which you check on your application.

Once a student’s application and recommendation have been received, an admissions decision will be made and the student will be contacted by email. Students will receive an email message stating “An update has been posted to your application status page. You may access your status page here.” Students will be able to see their decision letter on their student status page which can be found here: slate.summer.wfu.edu/apply/status.

Need-based scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. We review applications and award scholarship dollars on a rolling basis starting on November 1st. Within the general online application, there is a question that asks if the applicant is interested in applying for a scholarship. If one selects “Yes”, the scholarship application will generate and can be filled out and submitted along with the general Summer Immersion application. The scholarship portion of the application requires an uploaded W-2 from the previous year’s tax return. Students must apply by April 1, 2025 in order to be considered for a scholarship award.

Please check the Dates page for an update on future summer dates. Summer 2025 dates will be finalized before the application opens on November 1st.

After a student receives an acceptance letter via email, they can click the “Register” link within the email or visit their Student Status Page to access our registration form. On the registration form, students will need to select the institute(s) and week(s) they would like to attend. After a week is selected, the non-refundable $550 initial deposit due will generate.

A non-refundable deposit of $550.00 must be received in order to secure a seat in an institute. All remaining tuition is due by April 25, 2025. Payments are accepted online or via telephone at 980-224-9298.

Students and parents can make payments with a credit card (in the United States the card types are Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club) or a prepaid Visa or MasterCard gift card. Users in the United States can also use checking account payments through ACH transfers.

Paper checks can be mailed to Wake Forest University, Campus Financial Services, P.O. Box 7201, Winston-Salem, NC 27109. Please note “Summer Immersion Program – Name of Student” in the memo field of any paper check sent.

Upon acceptance to the Summer Immersion Program, students are encouraged to register by submitting the enrollment non-refundable deposit of $550 to hold their space in the program and the week of their choice. The remaining tuition will be due no later than April 25, 2025. For students who register after April 25th, full tuition is due upon registration.

Any tuition paid towards the Summer Immersion Program, minus the non-refundable $550 deposit, will be returned if you cannot attend the Summer Immersion Program, within a two-week notice**. We are happy to defer your acceptance and deposit to a future summer institute.

**Within two weeks of the start of a program, all payments made towards tuition are non-refundable.

Yes, accepted students who are unable to secure a seat in the institute of their choice can be added to a waitlist. In order to be added to the waitlist, students must submit a deposit of $550 to hold their space should an opening become available. If a seat becomes available and the student accepts the seat, the deposit becomes non-refundable. Students who don’t move off of the waitlist can transfer to another available institute or have the initial deposit refunded. Students will be notified via email regarding their waitlist status.

Summer Immersion Program check-in runs on Sunday from 3:00 – 5:00 pm EST. Programming runs from 8:00 – 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday with additional evening activities and scheduled free time. Students are dismissed at check-out at noon on Friday. Typical daily schedules can be found on each institute page.

All students are required to live in the assigned residence hall and stay on campus for the duration of the week to participate in our institutes. Students who drive themselves to campus must turn in their keys during Sunday check-in and may not access their vehicle until check-out on Friday.

If a student is planning on driving to Winston-Salem and parking their car for the week, they must request a parking pass and submit a $50 fee on the Travel and Transportation Survey (this survey is accessible on the Student Status Page once a student has been accepted and registered for an institute). Students who drive to campus must turn in their keys during Sunday check-in and may not access their vehicle until check-out on Friday.

Transportation to and from all off-site field trips is included in student tuition.

No, please do not list your child as an unaccompanied minor while traveling to the Summer Immersion Program. We will not be able to provide staff members to retrieve and drop off students to/from the airline gate.

The Wake Forest University Summer Immersion Program will provide shuttle buses to/from the Piedmont-Triad International Airport (GSO) and the Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) at the beginning/conclusion of the week. We will not offer airport shuttle service to or from the Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU).

Piedmont Triad International Airport Shuttle Information

The fee for reserving a space on the Piedmont Triad International Airport shuttle is $100 per trip ($200 round trip).

On Sunday, our Program Staff will meet students in baggage claim starting at 2:15 pm EST in front of the American/Allegiant Door with a Wake Forest Summer Immersion sign. Students should NOT be listed as unaccompanied minors when booking air travel. The Summer Immersion Program will not provide staff members to retrieve and drop students off at the airline gate. You flight will need to arrive by 2:30 pm at the latest. The Wake Forest Summer Immersion shuttle service will depart from the Greensboro airport at exactly 3:30 pm EST to bring students to campus.

Upon the conclusion of the institute on Friday, shuttle buses will depart for the airport at 12:30 pm EST. Students are encouraged to book flights that take off after 2:30 pm EST to ensure smooth travel. If flying, students are expected to complete the Travel and Transportation Survey prior to traveling to campus.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport Shuttle Information

The fee for reserving a space on the Charlotte Douglas International Airport shuttle is $150 per trip ($300 round trip).

The Wake Forest Summer Immersion shuttle service will depart from the Charlotte airport at exactly 2:00 pm EST to bring students to campus.

Students are encouraged to book flights that take off after 5:00 pm EST to ensure smooth travel. If flying, students are expected to complete the Travel and Transportation Survey prior to traveling to campus.

Yes, roommate requests can be made if both students have been accepted into the Summer Immersion Program and have registered for institutes taking place on the same dates. Email summerimmersion@wfu.edu before May 2, 2025 to request a specific roommate. Please note that all requests are not guaranteed.

High school students will be in the presence of Summer Immersion Program staff at all times, including recreational and evening activities. Students are supported by a team of carefully selected Teaching Assistants, Student Engagement Interns (SEIs), and professional staff members. This team oversees the safety of all students and serves in an on-call rotation 24 hours a day, throughout the week while the program is in session. Professional staff and SEIs will live in the residence hall with students to provide overnight supervision throughout all weeks of summer programming. In case of an emergency on campus, the Wake Forest University Police Department is available 24/7.

Students are encouraged to attend all five days of the institute to receive a Certificate of Completion. Many programs also include a group project in which all students will participate.

Unfortunately, students are unable to stay in the residence halls over the weekend due to a lack of staff supervision. There are many hotels in the area, near the University.

Wake Forest University policy states that minors under the age of 16 are not allowed to use the facility and those over the age of 16 must-have 1:1 adult supervision and be accompanied by a staff member. The Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program staff is not able to provide 1:1 supervision for every student and therefore students will not be able to use the gym during their time on campus. In addition, a parent/guardian is not allowed to sign a waiver to relinquish supervision requirements.

Throughout the week, students will have access to volleyball and basketball courts, and are welcome to walk or run around main campus. Students will be supervised by Wake Forest undergraduate Program Ambassadors during evening activities taking place on the volleyball and basketball courts.

The Summer Immersion Program packing list is specific to each institute and will be available on each student’s student status page once registered. For additional preparation, please review the SIP Planning Packet.

Dress is casual but may change based on institute. Some institutes may require long pants for labs or business casual clothing for certain field trips and presentations. Please bring a jacket or sweatshirt, as the classrooms can be chilly during the summer. The Summer Immersion Program Packing List will be available on each student’s student status page after registering for an Institute.

In close consultation with local health experts, we continue to monitor public health conditions locally and around the world. While COVID-19 is manageable, it is still with us. We ask that you remain vigilant about community spread and do all that you can do to stay healthy. The Wake Forest Summer Immersion Program will not require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test from participating students at this time.

Masks are a personal choice based on a personal assessment of risks. In certain circumstances, participants may be asked to wear a mask.

These courses are designed especially for high school or U.S.-high-school equivalent students, including those who are taking a “gap year” between high school and college. Students between 13 and 19 years old, not yet enrolled in college, and no more than 1-year post-high school graduation (“gap year”) are eligible to apply to the Online Immersion Program.

Returning Online Immersion students can either complete a new application to participate in a new program or reach out to support@onlineimmersion.wfu.edu and indicate interest in completing a new course.

We are looking for basic information and why you’re interested. You can complete your statement with a short essay, video, and/or other media files that tell your story. You must report your GPA (academic average), however, there is no minimum GPA requirement to be considered. The most important part of your application is your personal statement.

While we welcome students whose native languages are not English, note that the course is taught in English and application submissions must also be provided in English. Applications submitted in languages other than English will not be accepted.

Students must be at least 13 years old; no more than 19 years old; and no more than one year removed from high school graduation.

Courses are offered multiple times throughout the year and may have varying application deadlines. For all Online Immersion application deadlines, please look at specific program websites.

Students are typically notified of an admissions decision via email within 5 business days of submitting their application. At peak times or if we have questions about the information you’ve provided, it may take a few additional days to review your application and send you a decision.

Like all summer enrichment programs, participating in the Online Immersion Program will make students more interesting and experienced college applicants. Improved skills and understanding of interdisciplinary thinking will prove beneficial as students apply to college. Although participation in the Online Immersion Program will not afford any preferential treatment in the Wake Forest admissions process, participating in the program is an example of demonstrated interest in Wake Forest.

All programs are not-for-credit. The Online Immersion Program is designed to enrich the student’s understanding of a particular career path or field of study.
